I had my first migraine in my late teens. I'm now 70 and after a rear ended car accident with a head injury, they pretty well rule my life. I can go awhile with no headaches, but then get some one after another. My severe ones last two days in which I'm largely in bed. I take Prochalorazine for nausea, and extra strength Tylenol for pain. I have ice packs in the freezer I use for the throbbing areas, which are usually my right side of my head. My auras are similar to yours. I get flashing bright star bursts. I usually can't put a sentence together to make sense. I don't like your amnesia event and would get a referral to a neurologist. Anything that deviates from your normal pattern should be of concern.

I’ve had the same experience while trying to continue to work while the aura is happening: I was texting my SIL once in the midst of an aura episode and realized afterwards that what I had written made little to no sense. So discombobulating!

A friend of mine got them when she ate preserved and fermented foods such as kefir, sauerkraut, smoked meats, etc. Apparently it can be related to histamine intolerance. Just posting it in case it helps anyone.

Menopause relieved a lot of my migraines; now they're triggered by the weather or ingesting gluten. I sometimes get the aura with no headache and sometimes get the ache without the aura. Maxalt (rizatriptan) has been the greatest thing since aspirin for my own migraines. I wouldn't wish migraines on anybody. Hope you have another long stretch without one.

Great, interesting article. I had a year of migraines with only 3 days a month of respite, until I found that raw onions were triggering it. I had to stay away from the usual ones you mentioned, caffeine, cheese, and others, but onion is wayyy down the list of possible triggers.
