Wow. I just saw the Modern Marvels episode on him and went to Google him to see what came of his inventions. It's really disheartening to hear that he passed away before any of his ideas became popular, but I can understand that his passion may have overextended itself to every single idea rather than trying to promote just the "good" ones. It must be a strange and vaguely guilty feeling to not have taken that call in 2018. I hope his belongings are preserved somewhere.

I also just watched Modern Marvels and was trying to see what Mr. Farley was up to. Such a tragic story. I did find his grave here: https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/215218543/brent-lee-farley. It states 'beloved father'. His son would likely be grown by now, so maybe you could look him up one day. Side note.. My uncle was also obsessed with inventing a perpetual energy machine. He would tell everyone he knew about it. At length. 🙂

Thanks, Barbara. I actually have since heard from Brent’s son, confirming that Brent committed suicide almost exactly a year after I last heard from him. His artwork and notebooks are all in storage. I will probably have more to say on this at some point. Meanwhile I should probably add this information to the article.

Hi David – – I only now came across your insightful article about Brent Farley. I was one of his longest friends – – covering some 40+ years. I’d be happy to speak with you if you ever wanted the rest of the story. My husband befriended him also and I imagine his ex-wife would also be fine with contributing info or answering any questions.

Kind regards and big smiles,

Hope Karan Gerecht
